WHY CHOOSE KENYA

Five reasons to safari in Kenya

01

The Great Migration

More than two million animals move through the Mara ecosystem each year, with dramatic river crossings typically taking place between July and October. It is one of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife spectacles, experienced at its best in the Maasai Mara.

02

Exclusive private conservancies

Private conservancies offer low vehicle densities, exceptional wildlife viewing and a more intimate safari experience, often with greater flexibility than in the national reserve.

03

Authentic Maasai culture

Meaningful encounters with Maasai communities offer a deeper understanding of local traditions, stories and ways of life — experiences that enrich the journey rather than simply entertain.

04

Safari and beach in one journey

Kenya makes it easy to combine the Maasai Mara with the Indian Ocean coast — from Diani Beach to Lamu — creating a seamless safari-and-beach itinerary.

05

Some of Africa’s finest lodges

Angama Mara, Cottar’s 1920s Camp and Bateleur Camp are among Kenya’s most iconic safari properties, combining extraordinary locations with exceptional service and design.

“Kenya is where the African safari came into its own.”

WHEN TO GO

Best time for a safari in Kenya

Jan — Mar

SHORT DRY SEASON

Warm weather, excellent visibility and fewer visitors. A particularly good time for game viewing in the Maasai Mara and Amboseli, with clearer views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Jul — Oct

★ PEAK SEASON — GREAT MIGRATION

One of the most spectacular times of year. The Great Migration reaches the Maasai Mara, with dramatic river crossings often peaking around August. Book well in advance — the best lodges fill quickly.

Nov — Dec

GREEN SEASON

Lush landscapes, newborn wildlife and more attractive rates. With fewer visitors, Kenya feels quieter, more intimate and beautifully serene.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What travellers ask us most about Kenya

When is the best time to go on safari in Kenya?

July to October is one of the best times to visit, when the Great Migration reaches the Maasai Mara and dramatic river crossings may take place. January to March is also excellent, with dry weather, good visibility and fewer visitors.
Kenya offers rewarding safari experiences throughout the year, especially in private conservancies.

How many days do I need for a Kenya safari?

We recommend a minimum of 7 nights for a well-rounded safari experience — ideally 3–4 nights in the Maasai Mara combined with Amboseli or Laikipia.
If you would like to add time on the Indian Ocean coast, allow around 10–12 nights in total.

How much does a luxury safari in Kenya cost?

Most of our luxury Kenya safaris start from around US$6,000 per person, depending on the lodges selected, the length of the journey and the time of year.
Premium lodges in the Maasai Mara during migration season can be significantly more expensive, with availability often extremely limited.

Can Kenya and Tanzania be combined in the same journey?

Yes — it is one of the most popular combinations in East Africa. The Maasai Mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania form part of the same greater ecosystem, making it possible to combine both destinations in a 10–14 night journey.
This allows you to experience different landscapes, wildlife areas and safari styles across both countries.

What is the Maasai Mara, and why is it so famous?

The Maasai Mara is a national reserve in southwestern Kenya and one of Africa’s most celebrated safari destinations. It is renowned for extraordinary wildlife densities, dramatic predator sightings and its role in the Great Migration.
Together with the Serengeti, it forms one of the most important wildlife ecosystems in the world.

Do I need a visa to enter Kenya?

Most international travellers need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before travelling to Kenya, although exemptions apply depending on nationality and travel status. The application is completed online before departure.
As part of your journey planning, Siente África will guide you through the latest entry requirements for your nationality.
