LUXURY TRAVEL TO THE SEYCHELLES

The Seychelles are more than a beach destination — they are a world apart.

The Seychelles are unlike any other tropical archipelago. Their sculpted granite boulders, crystal-clear coral waters, rare coco de mer palms and giant Aldabra tortoises create a landscape that feels both ancient and otherworldly. For travellers arriving from a safari in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda or Botswana, the transition to the Indian Ocean is a natural final chapter — the same continent, experienced at its most peaceful and intimate. At Siente Africa, we combine the Seychelles’ most exceptional private islands and resorts with tailor-made itineraries designed around your pace, your interests and the way you want to travel.

WHY CHOOSE THE SEYCHELLES

Five reasons to include the Seychelles in your journey

01

Some of the world’s most distinctive beaches

The sculpted pink granite boulders of La Digue, Mahé and Praslin create some of the most recognisable beaches in the Indian Ocean. Formed from ancient continental rock, these landscapes are unlike the coral-island scenery found across much of the tropics. Anse Source d’Argent, on La Digue, is one of the Seychelles’ most iconic beaches.

02

Private islands with exceptional seclusion

North Island, Frégate, Desroches and Alphonse are among the Seychelles’ most exclusive island retreats. With very limited numbers of villas and a strong emphasis on conservation, they offer an extraordinary sense of privacy, space and connection to nature.

03

Remarkable marine and terrestrial biodiversity

From the coral reefs of Sainte Anne and Curieuse to the giant tortoises of Aldabra, the Seychelles are rich in both marine and terrestrial life. Snorkelling, diving and nature experiences are a central part of the journey, with encounters ranging from turtles and reef fish to rays and seasonal pelagic species.

04

Vallée de Mai — an ancient palm forest unlike anywhere else

On Praslin, Vallée de Mai is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the few places where the endemic coco de mer palm still grows naturally. Its prehistoric atmosphere, giant palms and rare species make it one of the Seychelles’ most distinctive natural landscapes.

05

The perfect ending to an African safari

The Seychelles pair beautifully with safaris in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Southern Africa. The contrast is part of the magic: wildlife and game drives followed by warm ocean, white sand and complete stillness.

“To watch the sun rise over the Serengeti and set over the Indian Ocean in the same journey — that is Africa.”

WHEN TO GO

Best time to travel to the Seychelles

May — Sep

SOUTHEAST MONSOON — GOOD, WITH SOME TRADE-OFFS

The southeast trade winds bring breezier conditions and rougher seas to some east-facing beaches, while many north- and west-facing shores remain calmer.
This is a particularly good time for sailing, windsurfing and active days on the water. Outer islands such as Alphonse are also excellent for fly-fishing during much of this period.

Oct — Apr

⭐ NORTHWEST MONSOON — BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

This is generally the warmer, calmer period, with gentler seas and excellent conditions for snorkelling, diving, kayaking and island-hopping. The transition months, especially October and April, can be particularly beautiful, with lighter winds, calm water and excellent visibility. It also combines very well with safari journeys in Kenya or Tanzania.

Dec — Feb

⭐ FESTIVE SEASON — WARM, LUSH & HIGH DEMAND

December to February is warm, tropical and highly sought after, particularly over Christmas and New Year. Resorts fill quickly, especially on the most exclusive private islands, so early booking is essential.
Expect lush landscapes, warm seas and a festive atmosphere, with occasional tropical showers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What travellers ask us most about the Seychelles

When is the best time to travel to the Seychelles?

The Seychelles can be visited year-round, but conditions vary depending on the season and the island.
The calmer transition months — particularly April and October — are among the best times to visit, with lighter winds, warm seas and excellent conditions for swimming, snorkelling and diving.
From May to September, the southeast trade winds bring breezier conditions and rougher seas to some exposed beaches, while many north- and west-facing shores remain more sheltered. From November to March, conditions are warmer and more humid, with occasional tropical showers. For Christmas and New Year, demand is especially high, so the most exclusive resorts should be booked well in advance.

How many days do I need for a trip to the Seychelles?

For a complete Seychelles experience, we recommend around 6–10 nights.
A stay of 5–6 nights works well if you want to focus on one or two islands, while a longer journey allows you to combine Mahé, Praslin, La Digue or one of the more remote private islands at a relaxed pace. If the Seychelles are the beach extension to an African safari, 5–7 nights is usually ideal.

Which is the best island to visit in the Seychelles?

It depends entirely on the kind of journey you want. Mahé offers the greatest variety, with beaches, mountain landscapes and the easiest international access. Praslin is known for Vallée de Mai, beautiful beaches and a more relaxed pace, while La Digue is ideal for travellers drawn to iconic granite scenery and a slower island atmosphere.
For greater privacy, islands such as Desroches, Alphonse, North Island and Frégate offer exceptional seclusion and a much more private experience. At Siente Africa, we combine islands according to your travel style, available time and preferred level of privacy.

What is the coco de mer, and why is it so special?

The coco de mer (Lodoicea maldivica) is a palm found naturally only in the Seychelles, particularly on Praslin and Curieuse. It produces the largest seed in the plant kingdom, with some nuts weighing more than 20 kilograms. For centuries, coco de mer nuts washed ashore across the Indian Ocean, leading to myths that they grew beneath the sea. Today, the Vallée de Mai on Praslin — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is one of the best places to see these remarkable palms growing in the wild.

Is a private island worth it compared with a resort on Mahé or Praslin?

If you are looking for complete privacy, exceptional service and the feeling of having an entire stretch of the Indian Ocean almost to yourself, a private island can be extraordinary.
Properties such as North Island and Frégate offer a very small number of villas, creating a level of seclusion that is difficult to replicate at a conventional resort. For a first trip to the Seychelles, we often recommend combining experiences — perhaps a few nights on Praslin or La Digue, followed by several nights on a private island. It gives you both variety and a deeper sense of escape.

Can the Seychelles be combined with an African safari?

Absolutely. It is one of the most natural safari-and-beach combinations in the Indian Ocean.
Kenya and Tanzania connect particularly well, making it easy to follow a safari with a few days in the Seychelles. A typical journey might include 8–10 nights on safari followed by 5–6 nights in the Seychelles. The contrast is what makes it so compelling: early-morning game drives in the savannah followed by warm turquoise water, white sand and complete stillness.

Do I need a visa to enter the Seychelles?

The Seychelles does not generally require visitors to obtain a traditional visa in advance. Entry is subject to the country’s current travel-authorisation and immigration requirements, which can vary depending on nationality and travel circumstances. Travellers are typically required to provide details such as confirmed accommodation, onward or return travel and sufficient funds for their stay. As part of your journey planning, Siente Africa will confirm the latest entry requirements for your passport before you travel.
