Información Útil
Kenya’s geography creates climatic variations across different regions, with lower-altitude areas being more humid and elevated regions such as the Laikipia Plateau enjoying a more moderate climate. Temperatures remain relatively stable throughout the year, creating pleasant conditions for travel. Rainfall is the most defining seasonal factor, with two main rainy seasons: the long rains (March to May) and the short rains (November).
Wildlife viewing in Kenya is influenced by the seasons, habitats, and water availability, although certain patterns help predict exceptional sightings throughout the year.
Highlights of the Green Season (April–May, July–August, November)
- The rains clear the air, create lush green landscapes, and offer exceptional photographic opportunities.
- Views of Mount Kenya become clearer due to reduced haze.
- Herbivores such as zebras and gazelles, along with their predators, move into the fertile plains of Segera.
- Colorful flowers and butterflies emerge following the rains.
Highlights of the Dry Season
- Wildlife concentrates around water sources such as the Ewaso Nyiro River and Segera’s watering holes.
- Predator sightings and overall wildlife activity increase significantly.
Each season offers a unique safari experience: the green season is ideal for vibrant landscapes and photography, while the dry season provides exceptional wildlife concentrations around water sources.
The dry season in Segera extends from December to March, June, and September to October. January and February are the warmest and driest months, concentrating wildlife around the Ewaso Nyiro River and Segera’s waterholes. During this time, travelers may encounter predators and iconic species of the Ewaso ecosystem, including elephants, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, and the endangered patas monkey.
Although haze can occasionally soften distant views of Mount Kenya, the warm and dry months of September and October are considered particularly ideal and comfortable for wildlife viewing.
Swahili and English are the official languages.
